Learn Jiu Jitsu and Learn an Essential Life Skill: Teamwork

How will learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in El Dorado Hills help my son or daughter develop life skills that will last a lifetime?

There are many benefits to training jiu-jitsu at our martial arts studio. Courage, leadership, confidence, dedication, discipline, and respect are only a few of the things our students develop as they train on the mat. Today we will high light one aspect of jiu jitsu that is often over looked in many grappling oriented, combative sports and even martial arts: TEAMWORK.

El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has developed many drills and exercises that are in the form of working out, that help build and facilitate team work. We are even careful with our wording of how we refer to one another. The idea of training with a "partner" instead of an "opponent" immediately establishes the idea that we are working together towards a common goal. This serves multiple purposes. "I will help you get better as you help me get better, and as a result of helping you I will be helping myself get better." This concept, ingrained in all grappling arts, is something preached heavily in Judo. The idea of mutual welfare.

Be Ambitious with your Jiu Jitsu Goals

Ambition is a word we don't often hear. I recently had a conversation with a friend who has a very ambitious goal: to retire at the age of 40. According to him the one thing that has kept him on track is the word AMBITION. You need to have it if you want to follow through with your goals. A good way to measure how bad you want to accomplish something is to figure out how ambitious you are about achieving that goal. It doesn't matter if those goals are jiu jitsu related, wrestling related, on the mat or off the mat. What's essential is that you realize and are able to gage your ambition.
Maybe we all need to create ambitio-meters. These meters will help us figure out if something we want to accomplish is actually a goal or just a fantasy. It's okay to have fantasies, it's great to dream about being the best when we are asleep, but we shouldn't confuse those with our goals. Goals should be pursued with a different tenacity, intensity, and ambition than anything else.
2012 is coming to a close. Take some personal time to think about the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. What were they? Did you write them down? Did you follow through with them? Did you forget about them? What does your ambitio-meter say about it?

What to expect when you step into Eldorado Hills Jiu Jitsu

When you walk into El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you will immediately realize that you have stepped into a place unlike any other in the area. There are five things you will notice when you step inside out 1,100 sqr foot studio. The level of energy, level of respect, attention to details, friendship, lifestyle approach to jiu jitsu is unlike any other place around. If you don't believe us, come see your yourself, mention this article and you will get a free session of training for that day!
ENERGY
Do you need more energy? Are you tired or stressed out and have difficulty sleeping at night? Then you need to be on the mat. When you walk into the studio you will experience another meaning of energy. It's not a joke when we say our warm up is your work out. We have a very high energy training designed to get rid of stress and give you healthier energy levels through out your day.
RESPECT
These days it's easier and easier to walk into a store or meet new people without ever being acknowledged. That will never happen at El Dorado Hills Jiu Jitsu. Every person is treated with respect when they walk in the door. It's not easy to walk into a new place with new people and try something new. We respect your decision to live a healthier, stronger life and will treat you with respect when you come into our dojo. (On another note, please don't walk into our studio with your chin up and chest out, we will probably ask you to never come back.)
DETAILS
We believe that technique that can be applied under the most stressful situations is the greatest neutralizer of all. Not only are we constantly seeking out the best way to improve a flaw, but also focus on laying a solid foundation in the fundamentals. Our fundamentals class is designed for beginners to be introduced to jiu jitsu in a fun and challenging way while allowing those that have been involved with the martial art to perfect something they have already learned. The more experienced students are expected to mentor and guide the newer, less experienced to assist with their learning.
FRIENDSHIP
What is the point in spending hours, days, months, and years in the same facility if you never get to know the person you are training with. The people we train with are training partner, not training opponents and therefore it's essential that we approach our training sessions as an opportunity to develop life lasting friendships with one another. In addition to some very intense training sessions, we have a few social events planned throughout the year. In addition to Jiu Jitsu tournaments, jiu jitsu seminars, and jiu jitsu training sessions, we also have a weekly social hour at a local pub and several pot luck events for all family members to participate in!
LIFESTYLE
Ultimately, we believe that jiu jitsu is our life work. A product we continue to transform, mold, adapt, and reform over our lifetime. Therefore we continue to live our lifestyle around training and challenging ourselves on the mat, and realizing each day how we can implement those lessons from the mat into our daily life off the mat. This lifestyle approach is a unique concept we have been developing in El Dorado Hills over the last several years. As a result of stepping up to the jiu jitsu lifestyle we have students who have had life transforming weight loss testimonials, physical health transformations, mental health transformations, and most importantly a support network of people who are dependable and trustworthy.

Want to start Jiu Jitsu? Try our FUNDAMENTALS CLASS

Jerel, Eliot, and Steve
El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has designed a very special class for all beginners. If you have been wanting to try jiu jitsu but have resisted it for a fear of injury, age or skill, you don't have an excuse any more! We have designed a class that will introduce Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to you in a safe and controlled environment. The following is a simple description of what to expect from your beginner's friendly FUNDAMENTALS JIU-JITSU CLASS.
Our Fundamentals Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class in El Dorado Hills is unlike any other Martial Arts classes in the area. Our classes start with a series of dynamic exercises and stretches to warm up the muscles and joints. These exercises are designed not only to warm the body up but also build a skill set of movements you will be able to apply in your jiu jitsu training. By activating the core and getting your body warmed up, we are able to minimize the risk of injury. Following the warm up, instruction begins with in the form of review. After reviewing the material from the previous class and drilling the movements with a partner, new material is introduced, building upon what has already been taught. In doing so, students are able to make better sense of how to combine techniques and focus on not only on move, but a sequence of movements. We like to call this CHAIN-DRILLING.
Kids class: 2012
After students work on their chain drilling, short bursts of controlled sparring takes place. During this time, the students are expected to focus only on the technique covered in class. By increasing resistance and not straying from the technical position that was just covered, students are able to test the technique and see if they were able to master it in the short time of drilling. If they did, GREAT! If not, we need to go back to our drilling and make sure we are practicing the technique exactly how it was designed. Immediately after our controlled sparring, we go into a warm-down. This is very similar to the warm up, but this time we are focused on lowing our hear rate, stretching out any tight areas while keeping the body in motion. It's an essential phase to get the lactic acid out, speed up recovery time and have the body prepped for the following session.
You are guaranteed to notice a difference in your cardiovascular and muscular strength within 30 days. For more information see the information below:

Here are a few things that were emphasized at the Jiu Jitsu seminar:
     - The importance of having grips that work with your guard.
     - Using your legs to created distance from the guard.
     - Learning the details and understanding why things are done, not just how they are done.

The seminar was also a great opportunity for those training Jiu Jitsu in Norther California to get together under the same roof and train. Representatives from 31/50 (a Jiu Jitsu company from CA the 31st State and Hawaii the 50th State) were also present to share their passion for Jiu Jitsu. Thank you AKA Sunnyvale for hosting another incredible seminar in Northern California.
