Jiujitsu Clinic with Ethos Soccer Team

On June 12th and 14th, members of the Ethos Soccer team gathered at El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to train on the mat. Unlike the usual day of training on the field, the soccer players were barefoot, rolling around on the mat. Instructors Eliot Kelly, Kevin B, and Nico L, all volunteered their time to help educate these newcomers on learning some basic rules, concepts, positions, and terminology.
The enrichment class focused on helping the students understand what Brazilian Jiujitsu is, and the contrasts of the Martial Art as a Sport and Self-Defense. "I had a great time!" said Eliot,  "I really enjoy teaching brand new students about Jiu-Jitsu and getting the students to think about and become aware of Self-Defense situations. It's fun to compare the 'Rules of Self-Defense' with the 'Rules of the Sport' because you start to see people making connections with their learning and it really gets them thinking."
Not only did the Soccer players learn about Self-Defense, but also were exposed to the Sport side of the Martial Art. By the end, the players were rolling around on the mat with each other, asking all types of questions about the rules, how to score points and what they should or should not be doing in certain positions. This was a great experience to learn, train, and build a stronger bond as a team.

"Jiujitsu is for everyone! Even Soccer Players!!!"
