2) Fundamental Jiu-Jitsu Gi
3) Competition Jiu-Jitsu Gi
4) NoGi Jiu-Jitsu
5) Open Mat
Each one of these classes have a different emphasis and are designed for students to benefit the most from their time on the mat. Today we will talk about some of the elements included in the adults beginner jiu-jitsu class.
The beginner class is designed for those with two different backgrounds. First, for those who are brand new to jiu-jitsu, they might know something about the martial art, but have little to no time of training experience. The second are for those coming back from some time off. Getting back in the groove of things can be difficult, and the beginners class is a good fit to help those get back to their fitness levels and recall the basic techniques of jiu-jitsu.
The class could be described as dynamic fitness. Dynamic meaning the class involves training in flexibility, an aerobic base, and anarobic strength. The 55 minute class tests different aspects from class to class, but the important element of our training cycle is to be consistent with training.
The technique taught is based on functional self defense movements. These movements include:
1) The ability to fall without injury
2) The ability to get back up from the ground
3) The ability to protect yourself and escape when someone is holding you on the ground
4) The ability to escape from chokes and strangulations
5) The ability to move under resistance on the ground and feet
In addition to the technique, we believe an increase in awareness is an essential step in learning about self defense. This includes:
1) Simulation exercises
2) In the News awareness chats
3) Question and Answer
4) Mat Chats
