Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for continuing to spread the word... we need it. I just got slammed with applications and the hardest part of my job is treating our sessions like triage and selecting the worst cases... especially when they all are. Financial support is the only way to add more sessions to meet the need, so THANK YOU!

EDH BJJ recently hosted a seminar with Professor Chad Robo of Gracie Barra Westcliffe. Professor Chad is a professional mixed martial artist, a brazilian jiu jitsu black belt, and has found a way to apply his martial arts training from the mat to his day to day training off the mat. Visit his website and find out more about the Mighty Oaks Foundation and how he has created a way to help wounded veterans rehabilitate from the mental and physical trauma of combat.
Jiu-Jitsu is great for the body and is an exciting adventure of the mind, spirit, and heart. In addition to sharing our experiences, I want to explore the multiple dimensions of Jiu-Jitsu as well as the philosophy, art, science, technique, etc. Most importantly, I want to use words to help define the Jiu-Jitsu we create with our bodies. When you read, the world widens and your mind begins to change a little. As we train hard to change ourselves for the better, we can also change our community!

Fixer or Server which one are you? A teacher's philosophy
FIXER OR SERVER
A fixer has the illusion of being casual
A server know they are being used in service of something greater; essentially the unknown
We fix something specific
We serve always the something: Wholeness and the mystery of life
Fixing and helping are the work of the ego
Serving is the work of the soul
When you help, you see life as weak
When you fix you see life as broken
When you serve you see life as whole
Fixing and helping may cure
Serving heals
When I help, I feel satisfaction
When I serve, I feel gratitude
Fixing is a form of judgement
Serving is a form of connection

Pursuing Martial Arts Excellence with the Ultimate Self Defense: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Eliot Kelly, head instructor of El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, is always talking about applying the training on the mat in the day to day life off the mat. Professor Chad Robichaux of Gracie Barra Westcliffe has found a way to apply his fight on the mat in his day to day fight off the mat. When you think about what it means to pursue the life of an ultimate martial artist or pursuing martial arts excellence, it's important to know that you can find people who have figured out a way to do just that. EDH BJJ hosted Professor Chad Robichaux on March 6, 2013 for a seminar and several days of training sessions of before and after the seminar. When Chad returned from Afghanistan after serving in the Marines he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, most commonly referred to as PTSD.
For Chad his martial arts training gave him the tools to help himself fight with the struggles he had to face as a civilian. Not only did he have to fight to overcome PTSD but also fight to stay with his family and stand up for what was truly important to him.

EDHBJJ: Pursuit to becoming the Ultimate Grappler and Martial Artist
El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a Martial Arts school in EDH that teaching the pure discipline of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling at a world class level. The result of having world class instruction with each discipline of these grappling martial arts: The Ultimate Grappler. At EDH BJJ we teach and learn concepts of self-defense, fitness, diet, sport, as well as several other aspects of BJJ that complete it as a whole martial art.
This video shows one of the exciting elements of Jiu-Jitsu from the guard position. Attacks from the De La Riva position have been seen in competition from some of the best of the best, including the Mendes brothers, Keenan Cornelius, and Miyao brothers. As advanced as this technique or position may seem, it sticks to some core elements when utilizing an "open" guard. Most notably to use the feet as though they are like hands. (yes, when you get good enough with Jiu Jitsu people will describe your feet as though you have an entire new set of hands) Another important basic concept of an "open" system is to not lay flat on the back. Instead of staying flat on the back, a good open guard player should be rocking back and forth from shoulder to shoulder, opening up the hips and understanding how to reposition their body in relation to their partner.
