Jiu-Jitsu is great for the body and is an exciting adventure of the mind, spirit, and heart. In addition to sharing our experiences, I want to explore the multiple dimensions of Jiu-Jitsu as well as the philosophy, art, science, technique, etc. Most importantly, I want to use words to help define the Jiu-Jitsu we create with our bodies. When you read, the world widens and your mind begins to change a little. As we train hard to change ourselves for the better, we can also change our community!

Warrior's Quest Jiu-Jitsu Champion
A Champion from Warrior's Quest
July 30, 2011
El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu had three competitors participate in the Warrior's Quest Tournament at Natomas High School. Angelo, Pierre, and Beau all showed up with an attitude of a champion, and fought with honor. Beau took the show away as he dominated to the top of the podium winning 4 straight fights to win his No-Gi weight division. He really focused on his mental and physical preparation for the tournament and the results speak for themselves. Pierre had a great tournament as well, fighting his way up to the 3rd place match. He lost a close one finishing in 4th place, but he has come back into training with a new spark in his eye, wanting to learn from the mistakes he made in competition while further developing his technical game. Angelo represented EDHBJJ in the kids division and had a great match battling out against a very experienced grappler. At one point it even seemed as though he was going to come back from behind to finish the match with a triangle choke. He did an incredible job fighting through difficult positions. Please congratulate these competitors the next time you see them!
Nor Cal NoGi Jiu-Jitsu Open
Gold & Silver at the Nor Cal No-Gi Open
August 7, 2011
El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu had a great showing at the Nor Cal No-Gi Open in Alameda, CA. The two competitors, Beau and Eliot battled their way to the finals of their divisions. Beau participated in the intermediate division and won three convincing fights to make his way to the top of the podium. He had a nail-biter finals match with plenty of action and excitement. The tied match came down to referee's criteria, but with the help of his exciting takedown attacks, his hand was raised in victory. His finals match was a true test of heart and will! Eliot won his first match with a shoulder lock and the second match with a choke, but fell short by a takedown in the finals. Please congratulate these competitors the next time you see them!
Japan NoGi National Champion
2 Gold Medals from Japan
August 21, 2011We had an unlikely entrant in the Japan No-Gi Nationals this weekend. Our instructor, Eliot Kelly traveled to Japan to train with Japan's National Wrestling team in preparation for their 2011 World Championships. In addition to wrestling, he had the opportunity to visit some local MMA and Jiu-jitsu academies, do some sightseeing, and compete in the Japan NoGi Nationals. In Suidobashi, a mecca of Martial Arts, Eliot got to visit and train at Master Japan. Master Japan is lead by head instructor and former UFC fighter Hironaka Kuniyoshi, who just claimed the Shooto World Welterweight Champion Belt in July.
At the Japan No-gi Nationals Eliot won his weight division and absolute (open weight) division. In addition to training at Master Japan, the majority of Eliot's training in Japan took place at the Ajinomoto National Training Center, where the Nation's top athletes train to compete in the World and Olympic Championships. Eliot was noted saying, "Not only did I get to train with the best in Japan, but also I got to experience & learn new warms ups and drills to implement in class. I got to eat dinner with an Olympic Gold medalist in Wrestling, Sauna with a 2000 Olympic Silver medalist in Judo, and learn from champions at the national and world level. Talk about being surrounded by Champions!" When you get a chance, make sure you ask Eliot about his experiences in Japan!

NoGi Jiu-Jitsu Tournament in El Dorado Hills
1st EDHBJJ No-Gi Tournament
August 28, 2011
We had a great tournament to finish off the summer months today! We had four divisions: little ninjas, kids, teens, & adults. This was our first No-Gi tournament in El Dorado Hills, and after a summer with extra No-Gi classes it only made sense to culminate our summer without the Gi. The tournament began with a brief introduction to the rules and point scoring of Brazilian jiujitsu followed by the tournament itself. There was great crowd support from all the friends and family in the stands, and everyone had a really good time! Thank you everyone for making the tournament a success! Look forward to participating in our final tournament of the year in December!
