Eliot Wins NoGI World Championships

Eliot competed in the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) NoGi World Championships this weekend in Long Beach, CA. Continuing with his winning streak from Japan, Pan-Ams, and the US Open, Eliot won the Adult Brown Super Heavy Division of the NoGi World Championships. Here is a look into his bouts: Up against a strong competitor from Alliance Academy in the Semifinals, the score was tied at the conclusion of the eight minute match, coming down to referee's criteria. Since the referee saw that Eliot was on the attack, keeping his opponent on the defensive, his hand was raised in victory. In the finals, Eliot faced a competitor from Brasa Academy, where he dominated the scoreboard and finished the fight with a rear-naked choke. Entering the Open division, where top placers from the different weight divisions compete to find out the absolute champion, Eliot fell short of the podium with a loss by an advantage point in the quarter finals. "
I promised myself I wouldn't just go for the win. I could have played it safe and I might have won the match, but that's not how I want to win. My style is to put on a great match and go for the finish when it presents itself." Complete results of the tournament can be found on the IBJJF website. The tournament was hosed by CSU Long Beach in the Pyramid Center.
