Eliot in the El Dorado Hills Telegraph

January 11, 2012

It will be hard for Eliot Kelly to repeat the success he had in 2011. The 27-year-old martial arts instructor at El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu won four prestigious tournaments from August to November that earned him the titles of world and national champion. In August, Kelly, who resides in Folsom, traveled to Japan and competed in the No-Gi Nationals, winning not only his weight class, but also the open division. He followed that up by winning his weight class in the Pan-American No-Gi Championships in New York in September. In October Kelly won his weight class in the US Open Championships in San Jose and capped off the year in November by winning his division at the World No-Gi Championships in Long Beach.
Kelly is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a sport he’s been competing in for only three and one-half years. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, competitors can win matches either by scoring more points or by submission. Kelly won his championships in Japan by points and claimed the other three titles by submissions.
