El Dorado Hills Brazilian Jiu Jitsu had three competitors enter the US OPEN in San Jose this weekend. Gary in the blue belt division, Eliot and Todd in the brown belt division. The US OPEN has been in place for 16 years and is one of Norther California's premiere Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments with competitors from as far as Alaska, Hawaii, Brazil, and the east coast!
Gary had an impressive showing with a submission attempt in place, his opponent was able to fight out of the attack. In his second attempt for a submission time ran out. Even while he was behind on points he appeared very calm through the entire match, and showed great improvement from his previous tournament competition. Gary finished the tournament with a BRONZE MEDAL! Eliot won his first match by submission, controlling his opponent on the ground to set up a finishing attack. In the finals he did the same, controlling his opponent to win by submission, taking the GOLD.
Todd took the event away by taking the GOLD in his weight & absolute division. Todd had an exciting match in his weight division, battling to pass the half guard and eventually winning by an advantage point. He was very excited to get on the mat and compete!
Congratulations to all the competitors from this weekend. A special thank you to the Parker family, Sean, Kevin, Beau, and Dave for showing up and support the competitors! It made a big difference having you guys there! The US OPEN was held at the San Jose State Events Center in San Jose, CA.
