Teach Your Child How to Speak Up to a Bully

According to educational consultant Michele Borba, learning new habits can help kids assert themselves safely.  Borba gives us some insight on what parents can help cultivate in their kids:

- Don't look like a victim.
- Stay calm.
- Say NO in a firm voice.
- Use a stone-faced glare.
- leave the scene as soon as possible.
- Join a Martial Arts Class.

Talk about these 6 different habits with your child. Take the time to teach them when and how they can use these to assert themselves safely. Always let your child know that you are there to support them, and that they need to REPORT any type of bullying as soon as it begins.
